If you are looking for a Fomo alternative, compare four things before features: how a tool proves that an order on screen is real, how its live visitor count is calculated, what the pricing unit is, and what happens when you go over your limit. Fomo is a capable, long-running product, so the right answer depends on which of those matters most to your store. This guide walks through each one, using Fomo's public listings as of October 2026, so you can make the comparison yourself.
Start with what Fomo does well
It is easier to pick an alternative when you know what you would be giving up. Per their public listings as of October 2026, Fomo has:
- A very wide integration catalogue: 106+ integrations plus Zapier and webhooks, so almost any event source can feed a notification.
- Fomo Inline, which places social proof directly in the page content as well as in a corner toast.
- A "Guaranteed by Fomo" badge that links to a page describing which integration a notification came from.
- Agency features, with an agency dashboard and white-labelling available as add-ons.
- A long Shopify track record: listed since 2017, with 4.5 stars from 153 reviews.
If your main need is pulling events from an unusual tool, or reselling the widget under your own agency brand, those are real strengths and worth keeping in mind. For a side-by-side table, see Provedly vs Fomo.
Check 1: how "real" is defined
Every sales notification tool says it shows real activity. The useful question is what stops a fake one from appearing.
Ask any tool you are considering:
- Where does a "verified" or "guaranteed" label come from? Is it a toggle, or is it earned only when an order arrives in a way that can be checked?
- Can a merchant type an order by hand, and if so, how is it labelled on the storefront?
- Is there a page a shopper can open to see the rules behind the numbers?
Per Fomo's public listings as of October 2026, the "Guaranteed by Fomo" badge describes the integration source of a notification, and a signing requirement is not published. Fomo's handling of manually created events is not published either.
In Provedly, a record shows "Verified purchase" only when it arrived through a Stripe, Shopify or WooCommerce webhook whose signature matched the signing secret. Hand-added records show a "Sample" tag, and CSV or API records show "Imported". There is no field to type a fake order. If you want the background, how a verified purchase notification works explains the chain end to end.
Check 2: the live visitor counter
"X people are viewing this" is where many tools get vague. A counter can be a short-window count of real visitors, a daily total, or a number picked at random in the browser. In our scan of 200 small Shopify stores, 5 of 11 "people viewing" counters were generated in the browser.
Per their public listings as of October 2026, Fomo lists an "active visitors counter", but does not publish how the count is computed or whether it can be adjusted. Before you switch to or away from it, ask their support how the number is produced, or test it yourself.
Provedly's counter works like this: the browser sends a heartbeat every 30 seconds, the number shown is distinct visitors on that page in the last 90 seconds, and it stays hidden below a minimum you set (2 by default). You can test any counter, including ours, with the free checker.
